Last updated: 30 September 2026

About this policy

The Business Advisory™ ("we", "us", "our") operates this online store and website, including all related information, content, features, tools, products and services (the "Services"). Our store is powered by Shopify, which enables us to provide the Services to you.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, hold and disclose your personal information when you visit, use or make a purchase through the Services, or otherwise communicate with us. We are based in South Australia and handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, as well as any other privacy laws that apply to you where you live.

If there is a conflict between our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy, this Privacy Policy controls in relation to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information. By using the Services, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.

Personal information we collect

"Personal information" means information or an opinion that identifies you, or could reasonably be linked to you or another person. It does not include information that is collected anonymously or has been de-identified. Depending on how you interact with the Services, we may collect the following:

  • Contact details: your name, address, billing and shipping address, phone number and email address.
  • Financial information: payment card and account details, transaction details, form of payment and payment confirmation. Card payments are processed by our payment providers; we do not store full card numbers ourselves.
  • Account information: your username, password, security questions, preferences and settings.
  • Transaction information: items you view, add to your cart or wishlist, purchase, return, exchange or cancel, and your past transactions.
  • Communications with us: information you include when you contact us, such as a customer support enquiry.
  • Device information: your device, browser, network connection, IP address and other unique identifiers.
  • Usage information: how and when you interact with and navigate the Services.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive information (such as health information or racial or ethnic origin). If you choose to share it with us, we will only use it with your consent and for the purpose you provided it.

Where practical, you may deal with us anonymously or under a pseudonym, for example when browsing the website. However, we will need your personal information to process an order or provide most of our Services.

How we collect personal information

We collect personal information from the following sources:

  • Directly from you: when you create an account, place an order, use the Services, contact us or otherwise give us your information.
  • Automatically through the Services: from your device when you visit our website, including through cookies and similar technologies. You can adjust your browser settings to refuse cookies, but some parts of the Services may not work properly.
  • From our service providers: when they collect or process personal information on our behalf, such as payment processors and Shopify.
  • From our partners or other third parties.

How we use your personal information

We use personal information for the purposes it was collected, related purposes you would reasonably expect, or as permitted or required by law. These include:

  • Providing, tailoring and improving the Services: processing payments and orders, managing your account, sending account and order notifications, arranging delivery, handling returns and exchanges, enabling reviews, remembering your preferences and recommending relevant products.
  • Marketing and advertising: sending promotional communications by email, text message or post, and showing you online advertising based on your activity with the Services. We only send electronic marketing in line with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth), and every marketing message includes a way to unsubscribe.
  • Security and fraud prevention: authenticating your account, keeping payments secure, and detecting and responding to fraudulent, illegal or malicious activity. Please keep your account login details private and do not share them with anyone.
  • Communicating with you: providing customer support and maintaining our business relationship with you.
  • Legal reasons: complying with applicable law, responding to valid legal process or requests from government agencies, participating in legal proceedings, and enforcing our terms and policies.

How we disclose personal information

We may disclose your personal information to third parties for legitimate purposes, including:

  • Shopify and our service providers who perform services on our behalf, such as IT management, payment processing, data analytics, customer support, cloud storage, fulfilment and shipping.
  • Business and marketing partners who help us provide marketing services and advertise to you. For example, Shopify supports personalised advertising with third-party services based on your online activity across merchants and websites. These partners use your information in line with their own privacy policies. You can opt out of targeted advertising by contacting us or through the options in the Relationship with Shopify section below.
  • Third parties you direct us to, or where you consent, such as couriers delivering your order, or when you use social media widgets or login integrations.
  • Our affiliates or related entities.
  • In connection with a business transaction such as a merger, sale or insolvency; to comply with legal obligations (including subpoenas, warrants and similar requests); to enforce our terms or policies; and to protect the Services, our rights and the rights of our customers or others.

Relationship with Shopify

The Services are hosted by Shopify, which collects and processes personal information about your access to and use of the Services in order to provide and improve them. Information you submit is transmitted to and shared with Shopify and with third parties that may be located outside Australia.

To help protect, grow and improve our business, we use certain Shopify enhanced features that combine data from your interactions with our store, other merchants and Shopify. For these features, Shopify is responsible for processing your personal information, including responding to requests to exercise your rights. To learn more, see the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy, where you can also exercise your rights through the Shopify Privacy Portal.

Overseas disclosure

Your personal information may be transferred to, stored and processed in countries outside Australia, including the United States, Canada and other countries where Shopify and our service providers operate. We take reasonable steps to ensure overseas recipients handle your information in a way that is consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.

If we transfer personal information out of the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on recognised transfer mechanisms such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (or the UK equivalent), unless the destination country has been found to provide an adequate level of protection.

The Services may link to websites or platforms operated by third parties. We are not responsible for their privacy or security practices, or the accuracy of their content, so please review their policies before sharing information with them. Information you post in public or semi-public places, including third-party social networks, may be visible to others. A link to another site does not mean we endorse it, unless we say so on the Services.

Children's data

The Services are not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us their personal information, please contact us and we will delete it. We do not have actual knowledge that we "share" or "sell" (as defined in applicable law) personal information of anyone under 16.

Security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. However, no security measures are perfect, and information sent to us online may not be secure in transit. Please do not send sensitive or confidential information through unsecure channels.

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it, for example to maintain your account, provide the Services, meet legal and tax obligations, resolve disputes and enforce our agreements. When it is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it. If we experience a data breach likely to cause serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required by law.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the rights below. These rights are not absolute, and in some cases we may decline a request as permitted by law.

  • Access: request access to the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction: ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete or misleading.
  • Deletion: ask us to delete personal information we hold about you.
  • Portability: receive a copy of your personal information or have it transferred to a third party, in certain circumstances.
  • Marketing preferences: opt out of promotional emails at any time using the unsubscribe link. We may still send you non-promotional messages about your account or orders.

To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity first. You may appoint an authorised agent to make a request for you, but we will need proof of their authority and may ask you to verify your identity directly. We will respond within a reasonable time, usually within 30 days, and will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

Complaints

If you have a complaint about how we handle your personal information, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC). If you live outside Australia, you may also be able to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our practices or for operational, legal or regulatory reasons. We will post the updated policy on this website, update the "Last updated" date, and give notice where required by law.
